Backup you Data Files from HDD to ???

Backing up your data

See fig 1-6 below

Most computer systems today have far too many files for the backup system to fit on a DVD. If you have an external Hard Drive, you can do so easily using Windows Backup software or a program such as Norton Ghost.

In most cases it is just easier to make sure the “data” files are backed up (copied) to a CD, a DVD, or to an external thumb drive (depends on the size of the files you need to save).

First click Start, All Programs, Accessories, Tools and select “Backup”. You should get a window where you can select backup or restore (see below). Next you will get a window asking what you want to backup. You can select your “Documents and settings”, “Everyone’s documents and settings,” “All information on the computer”, or you can select “let me choose” (see below)

Select “Let Me Choose” and you will get a new window listing all the folders on your HDD. Click the plus sign next to the C drive, (see below) then find the folder(s) you want to back up. If you put a check mark beside each folder or file, they will be backed up. If you double click on “My Documents” all files and folders in My documents will be selected.

Once you have finished selecting files/folders, click next. You should now get a new window asking you to select the backup device. Select “browse” if you need to locate the backup device. Now, in the block below, type the name that you want to give this backup.
